The holidays are no time for this no-makeup makeup business. Winter is all about glamorous eyes, sparkles and drama. How else are you going to seduce your single hot colleague at the annual office holiday party? (Kidding!)
This year, we look to some of the hottest beauty trends on the runway and our celebrity friends to create the best holiday beauty looks for the season.

*The Cat Eye*
Lanvin sent some killer cat eyes down the runway during fall 2013 previews, as did Michael Kors, Kenzo and Jason Wu (can you tell it's a trend?). Everyone had their own take on the dramatic eye and we’re thoroughly inspired. Celebrities we love who rock this temptress look include singer Ciara, actress Evan Rachel Wood and of course celebutante Kim Kardashian. We recommend a festive red dress and a nude lip for the perfect naughty Mrs. Claus look.
*A Red Lip*
Not everyone can pull off a red lip. (Even Jennifer Aniston has openly stated that she’ll never give the red pout a go due to her complexion.) But for those of us who want to try it this holiday season, you can glean some inspiration from Nina Ricci’s fall preview as well as Zac Posen and Marc by Marc Jacobs who all embraced red lips in various shades. As opposed to Jen, country crooner Taylor Swift is known for her affinity for red lips, as seen in her latest In Style cover where she looked especially holiday appropriate in green. In case you’re curious as to what her exact shade is, Swift uses Chanel Rouge Allure Lip Colour in Pirate.
*Glitter Eyes*
If ever there was a time to put glitter on your eyes, it’s the holiday season. It’s like we all save our one pot of gold glitter shadow for the winter and designers such as Thakoon, Chanel and Donna Karan granted our wish when they sent glitter-laden models down the catwalk. Glitter is also a hard look to get right because can end up looking like you broke into your mom’s makeup kit so you can pretend you be a Disney princess. To avoid looking gaudy, look to celebrities who have gotten glitter eyes right for inspiration, including actresses Emma Watson and Frieda Pinto and singer Katy Perry.
*Grey Eyes*
We're betting many girls’ makeup palettes look similar: Neutrals and pinks are popular while slate grey shades and bolder colours remain untouched. This holiday season, try playing with your grey eye shadow seeing as how Alexander Wang, Derek Lam and John Galliano all thought it was a novel idea. Actresses Garcelle Beauvais, Alexa Chung and Kate Mara all gave slate grey a go, achieving a subtle yet seductive look.
*Rosy Glow*
This gorgeous beauty trend is a must-have for winter because not only is it forgiving but it's also timeless. Matte faces might have been all the rage for a while but nothing looks healthier than a rosy glow on a fresh face. A cream blush will do the best job when trying to achieve this look, which was perfectly executed by supermodels Karlie Kloss and Jourdan Dunn.
*Burgundy And Wine Coloured Lips*
Watch out red lips, you have competition. The wine-coloured trend is perfect for winter 2013 and was seen at runway shows for Fendi, Rachel Zoe, Miu Miu and Vera Wang. If you can’t quite pull off red, perhaps burgundy is the colour for you. Emma Stone, J.Lo and Lana Del Rey looked pretty vampy wearing this rich cold weather hue.
*Braids*
The braid has become quite the beauty mainstay and comes in many forms so if you're still not sure how to style your hair, a braid is a good way to go. So trade in your messy summer beach braid for a more refined hairdo to go with your holiday look. Amanda Seyfried wore her hair in a classic braid while "Mad Men" star January Jones pinned up her short hair and incorporated braids for a fun holiday appropriate look.
*Slick Hair*
Tread carefully with this next trend. Slick wet hair was once, to put it gently, not a good look (at least in our books), but the light and slick hair trend can look next level chic as fashion girl P’Trique would say.
Unless you have a professional stylist at your beck and call, take the slick wet hair trend down a notch and get inspired by this Giambattista Valli look and create a slick ponytail using hair-taming products to ensure flyaways are tucked away. Model Bar Rafaeli wears her hair slick but not drenched in this totally wearable but high style ponytail whereas actresses Camilla Belle and Kiera Knightly also do it right with this slick side part look.
*Matte Nails*
Matte nails might just make a bigger beauty statement than glossy nails this winter. They may also create the perfect contrast with your glittery holiday cocktail dress. Don’t believe us? Well, the proof was on the Karen Walker runway, where models sported black nail lacquer with an OPI matte topcoat. Gwen Stefani, Eva Mendes and Gwyneth Paltrow are all huge fans of the look and have travelled the road less glossy with futuristic matte nails.
*Straight And Parted In The Middle*
The polished middle part was seen everywhere on the runway during the fall/winter 2013/14 collections and standouts included DKNY and Reed Krakoff. But you don't need to be a makeup artist to achieve the look; It’s fairly easy to pull off with the help of a comb and your trusty straightening iron. It’s also ideal for the winter season since humidity-induced frizz won’t factor in as much.
Victoria Justice, Sofia Vergara and Beyoncé have been known to swish around their long locks, sporting it straight and split right down the middle for a versatile and sleek beauty look. Reported by Huffington Post 10 hours ago.
